A yellowish essential oil of unpleasant odour with a sp. gr. of 093; soluble in alcohol, ether, etc., and distilled from the unexpanded flower buds of the Artemisia maritima L.. It contains cineol, dipentene, terpineol, etc. An American variety is derived from the seeds of Chenopodium ambrosiuides, and contains cymene, sylvestrene. camphor, etc. Artemisia Annua is stated to contain a ketonic body which upun oxidization yields a substance of the lormula C10H16O, of sp. gr. 0871, boilingpoint 182 degrees C., and refractive index 14688.
