What is SACCHARATE?

1. Having or containing sugar. 2. A compound of saccharic acid and a base. 3. A compound of cane-sugar with a base. S. of Iron A compound of cane-sugar and iron, important as an antidote for arsenic. S. of Lead, a salt of saccharic acid and lead, used in forming the nitro-saccharate of lead, which has been vaunted as a safe and effective solvent of urinary cal cuius. S. of Lime, a compound of cane-sugar with lime. A syrup charged with it has been recommended as a cure for chronic rheumatism. A so u- tion of this compound is a good antidote in carbolic- acid poisoning.
