A colourless or slightly yellow, heavy, volatile oil distilled from the unripe fruit of My/tus pimenta of the West Indes, resembling oil of cloves in odour. Sp. gr., 1045 10 I degrees55 5 soluble in alcohol and ether and used in perfumery and for flavouring. The oil distilled from the leaves of the plant yield about 1.8 per cent, of eugenol, from which vanillin can be obtained.
