Sp. gr., 0970 to 0995; rotation, 50 degrees to 68 degrees. An essential oil derived from the leaves of the herb Pogostemon patchouli, indigenous in Northern India and China, and grown 111 the West Indies and the Straits Settlements. It is yellowish and somewhat thick, soluble in alcohol and ether, and used in perfumery. Its constituents include eugenol and cinnamic aldehyde.
