What is MELLITIC ACID?

Occurs in peat as socalled honeystone, or aluminium mellitate. When pure, it is a white, crystalline bod. soluble in water and alcohol, of polybasic character, and can be obtained from lignite or graphite by oxidation with potassium permanganate.
