Gardeners often wonder what to do with the fir cones which are dropped from trees annually, and sometimes they mix them with heaps of leaves, in the hope they will rot down. The best way is to save them up and use them for fuel in the house throughout the winter. During the burning a delightful pine odour is given off, and as we sniff it in our easy chairs our thoughts soon fly back to the glories of the summer garden.
