A white, crystailr e derhate of benzene found present in Peru and Tolu balsams, and liquid storax, soluble in alcohol, ether, and hot water, and which yields benzoic acid upon oxidation. It is monobasic, melts at 1330 C., and forms a large variety of crystallizable salts.
