What is CAFFEINE?

is the alkaloidal principle of coffee contains varying proportions up to about 1 per cent., kola nuts, and tea. It melts at 2368 degrees C., and crystallizes from water in white silky needles, having a slightly bitter taste. It is soluble in chloroform, not very soluble in cold water, but much more so in boiling water. It can be prepared from xanthine.
