The seeds of C. arabica. The dried and roasted seeds are almost universally used in infusion as a beverage, forming a cerebral stimulant and stomachic tonic. They are valuable in promoting digestion and allaying hunger and fatigue. Coffee frequently causes excessive palpitation of the heart. Its properties are due to an alkaloid, Caffein, C8H10N4O2.
