A genus of sapindaceous trees and shrubs; the maples. A. saccharinum, the Sugar Maple of North America, affords a large commercial supply of sugar. A. rubrum, the Red Maple, has an astringent inner bark. A. pennsyhanicum, Striped Maple, is said to be antemetic and alterative.
